STEM workshops in Music Technology delivered in your classroom, focussed on the science of sound combining theoretical and creative approaches to getting K-4 primary school students hands-on with music technology.

Students are Working Technologically as they use a variety of materials and devices to build and record different musical instruments. Students are also given the opportunity to modify their designs and recall the process of making in a tutorial filmed and edited using simple video software. Students are Working Scientifically when they investigate the properties of sound and the objects used to create sound. Patterns and algebra are explored through the context of music, with students designing, practising and notating different rhythms and notes on their instruments.

As an extension to this unit, students can make an electronic musical instrument using MaKey MaKey or equivalent digital hardware/software.

This unit links to Creative Arts outcomes relating to music.
