Conducting and Music Direction for Ensembles
Delivered by Professor Ian Cook
The course is designed to provide practical conducting skills to music teachers who have taken on the task of running school ensemble programs (both primary and secondary).
One challenge for any practical conducting workshops is being able to provide ‘podium time’ to the participants where they can conduct ‘live’ musicians other than say 2 pianos. The software associated with Notion Conducting Curriculum provides the resource for an interactive experience to all participants undertaking the course by way of laptops and a sound system.
Practical conducting technique and the development of non-verbal communication is also the focus of this professional development course. Teachers will be able to incorporate the skills into their own ensemble programs leading to a more effective rehearsal environment while developing a non- verbal language for communicating and engaging their ensemble members.
The skills developed in the course cover a range of ensemble scenarios – orchestra/band and choral.
The Notion Conducting Curriculum software is unique and fills a void in teaching conducting and music direction pedagogy through a practical experience.
